Henry Joy McCracken, has been a pub for over 100 years. Call into this Joys Entry bar for great drinks, traditional food, live music and plenty of history.
Refurbished in 2018, Henrys is on the site of what has been a public house for over 100 years. Located on Joy's Entry, one of the narrow 17th century “first” streets of Belfast, Henrys is named after Henry Joy McCracken, a prominent figure in the history of Belfast.
The Blue Plaque at the top of the entry notes Joy’s Entry as being named after Francis Joy, the founder of Belfast’s first newspaper “The Belfast News Letter” and the location of the papers first print!
Francis Joy was also grandfather to Henry Joy McCracken, a free-thinking Belfast merchant and famed United Irish Man. It is believed he was held in a prison on the same site before his execution in the nearby Corn Market in in 1798.
Henry's Public House and adjoining sister bar The Jailhouse, offer a fantastic range of traditional food, local drinks and entertainment alongside the rich history of their namesake Henry Joy and the heritage of Joys Entry and the buildings within it.
